Brambleton Vet complaint

Published 5/16/07

Today I filed an official complaint (two-page PDF) against Brambleton Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Linda F. Jennings DVM with the Virginia Board of Veterinary Medicine’s Enforcement Division.

I was going to hold off, but the fact that Dr. Linda Jennings tried to get my wife fired (granted, from a job she didn’t actually hold) moved this up to the front burner.

I am still in awe over that. A vet that had us as long-term customers with more than five animals called two strangers to try to get Karen fired because we didn’t like the attitude in the office and argued over a charge.

How wacked do you have to be to call a relative stranger and demand that he fire someone who doesn’t even work for him? I dunno.

More importantly, thank you to all the folks who have written and blogged about this, especially those of you in Roanoke and those who have shared your problems with Brambleton Vet. In all seriousness, it’s wonderful to see.

The great show of support is probably because nobody likes a bully and it’s good to see someone standing up for themselves. I hope she and her establishment get what’s coming to them so that other pets and their owners won’t be further victimized.
Way to go!

My gods there are stupid people here. Did you ever bother to read the story? WE TRIED TO PAY. Repeatedly. Credit card, check, cash immediately.

Listen, if you’re not smart enough to read or understand what happened, don’t bother posting.

I read the whole story and i can see the whole picture. You have nothing better to do but sit at your computer all day. Do you have a job or have you made a career of logging complaints hoping to get something for nothing

And shouldn’t Dr. Jennings be worrying about her practice, rather than calling the SPCA to try to get my wife fired from a job she doesn’t have? Sorry, Jackie, as an employee of the Brambleton Veterinary Hospital you’re clearly biased.

I have one word for Animal Lover……………Huh?

Andrew has a very valid complaint………..and if I were Dr Jennings, I would have very much tried to keep this quiet in he first place, apologize and get on with her practice. She instead chose to attack one of her long time excellent clients….. Not a good business practice……..she opened a can worms and it isn’t to easy to put the lid back on now……

how does andrew have a valid complaint??? ummmm Dr. Jennings would not except my payment waahhhh!!! yeah she can do what she wants because it’s her hospital. umm 2 years is not a long time client by the way, a long time client would be a person who has brought there animal there when it was born through old age, that’s a long time Client. Just like a any HUMAN hospital they can d o whatever, they dol’t have to except your payments they can put a garnishment on you. not saying a vet oculd do that but you know same difference. I know some people who bring there dogs to doggy daycare there and the dogs would not have without it. There dogs look forward to going there in the mornings. if it were so bad then why would they want to go back?

Anonymous/animal lover obviously has a reason to be so defensive here. I can see her rage through the screen - her eyes are red and her head about to explode. Settle down lady! Your clinic made a huge mistake! I still don’t understand why they didn’t take a check with the customers name and address on it. How could this have been a stolen check? Wait, maybe they had a check printing machine in the car - hee hee! Come on - you guys can’t descriminate and expect a warm and fuzzy response!

Andrew says:

Actually, she can’t “do what she wants.” She can’t refuse to take a Visa card — that’s in her agreement with Visa. She can’t hold my animal overnight when I’ve made multiple good-faith efforts to pay my bill.

She doesn’t have the right to refuse pain medication to my dog. She doesn’t have the right to call what she thought was my wife’s employer to lie about us.

Further, although I suppose she has the right to treat us like dirt, she certainly can’t complain when we tell everyone about what happened. She can’t complain when I file a grievance with the state veterinary board. She can’t complain when I ask the Better Business Bureau to intervene.

You really, really need to get a better grip on logic, Anonymous.

Annonymous, you cannot refuse someones payment and then put a garnishment on their wages. And I have never known any hospital to do that. And they kept the dog at the hospital after refusing their method of payments. That is ridiculous and I don’t think it would stand up in a court of law, especially when they incurred more charges on the client by holding him over night. Not logical behavior by any means.

Incidentally, “Anonymous” has a real name: Marissa.

Marissa says:

Hey she does have the right to refuse check as lots of places do. first she probably htough it was going to bounce. checks bounce especially when you don’t have sufficiant funds in your savings account, i would not take it either. They can’t get her in trouble for hokding him overnight. if her didn’t pa ythen he can’t have his dog back, this is a policy that a lot of vets have and they also have you sign contracts for it

May 24th, 2007 at 2:19 PM

Andrew says:

If she doesn’t want to accept checks, she doesn’t have to. But she can’t A) say she accepts checks but refuse to take ours and B) keep our dog.

In fact, we learned later that if we called the police, she would have had to give us our dog because we tried to pay and she refused our money.

So — once again as you’re obviously not getting it — we offered to pay. We made repeated, good-faith efforts to pay, including American Express, Visa, a check, and cash. The office refused them all. There was no issue of us having the money; we obviously did as we paid in full the moment Brambleton Veterinary Hospital opened the next day.

Sheesh. It’s like talking to a wall.
