Making It
Evidently a Russian finance magazine had its ad banned when people realized what the euro was doing to the dollar:

Yes, It Can Get WorsePosted 09/19/03
Your kid says, “When I grow up, I want to be a scientist.” You have pictures in your head of lab coats, test tubes, Nobel Prizes. But then there’s the other side — the dark side of science. No, not ‘politically’ dark (like experimenting on kittens or something). These are what Popular Science calls “The Worst Jobs in Science.” I dare you to disagree. (You want an example? How about “Dysentery Stool-Sample Analyzer.” Now do you believe me? Back to top Squatting in ColumbusPosted 09/19/03
It seems some folks around here — a whole family (or, perhaps, Family) — have taken to squatting in and illegally renting out a bunch of homes in a neighborhood. You really have to read the whole thing. This is from our local paper (the Dispatch). There’s no single funny moment — the whole story is just unbelievable. Thanks to getting my news — well, headlines and links anyway — from lots of different places, I often find myself reading an article from a newspaper somewhere… but I don’t know where. For instance, today I ended up at the Corvallis Gazette Times. I have no clue where Corvallis is. Phone numbers in ads don’t have area codes. There are references to places like “Mid-Valley,” “near campus,” and the ubiquitous “area” (e.g., “Area Doctor Going to Iraq”), but living in such a homogeneous country makes it hard to tell whether Corvallis is in Oregon or Florida… or anywhere in between. Cool. PS: It’s in Oregon. Back to top Top StoryPosted 09/18/03
I like the all-computer-generated Google News, but sometimes choosing the right top story really does require some human intervention.
