Spam from Your Hardware — Yikes!

Here’s an icky thing. You buy a piece of networking hardware — a Belkin-brand router, in this case. It’s supposed to move your network’s traffic around properly.

Then you find out that it’s occasionally directing computers on your network to a Belkin ad. This is equivalent to your Sony television occasionally changing the channel to a Sony ad — without your consent or knowledge.

Such was reported on NewsWirelessNet, based on a post to the net-abuse Usenet newsgroup.

Don’t ever buy Belkin network products — I think that’s the clear message here.
