Bravo to CNN

Published 5/19/05

Yay, CNN! The site not only reported that Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith had been leaked to a file-sharing network, but also gave the all-important detail of which one (Bittorrent).

Good thing they didn’t explain how to use it — that you would need to install a free Bittorrent client (such as ABC), then go to a site like TorrentSpy and search for it.

Then all you would need to do it click the file name and follow the instructions.

(Neat thing about Bittorrent: The more people downloading the movie, the faster it gets….)

I just read your great column in USA Today about this… It is impossible for MPAA to shut down file sharing - no matter what happens to various law suits. The US jurisdiction simply doesn’t cover the whole Internet.

Here’s some inspiration for another column - have a look at the Swedish-based bit-torrent tracker site Pirate Bay - http://www.piratebay.org - and click the link “Legal Treats”. I guarantee you will have a few good laughs…

Sorry for commenting twice but here is another interesting link connected to the previous one.

In your article you mentioned ABC’s (Disney’s) coverage of file sharing. As a contrast - check this link for a summary of a debate in Swedish TV with “Pirates” and “Anti-Pirates”.

The general opinion in Sweden - including mainstream media - is starting to lean more and more towards pro file sharing. Even the government have publicly admitted that they do not see it as a priority for police and legal resources to go after file sharers.

The entertainment industry faces an uphill battle if they continue to fight rather than embrace new technology…
