Katrina blogs

Best sites for late-breaking on-site info:

The best I’ve seen: The “Survival of New Orleans blog,” a blogger holed up with friends and supplies in a building somewhere.

The Times-Picayune Breaking News Weblog
and Jon Donley’s blog on the site.

UPDATE: Thanks to Eric for these: The Web sites Katrina Check-In and the New Orleans Craig’s List site are serving as clearinghouses for victims.

(Katrina Check-In was swamped, so it may take a while to get through.)

If that doesn’t work, the best place to try to find relatives is through the Red Cross — it’s at www.redcross.org or you can call (800) HELP NOW. Unfortunately, those folks can’t get through to N.O. either.

NOTE: I have reversed the order of comments in this entry. The most recent is now at the top.

Have you watched the coverage on O’Reilly about the looting? I haven’t seen more then a few white people among them. This really is a tribute to the intelligence of the black race! Perhaps we should just support all of them from here on out. Uncle Jesse had it right all along. Blacks really are oppressed! Or just a large majority of them really stupid…

August 31st, 2005 at 8:56 PM

Andrew says:

Well, considering that blacks are more likely to be the poorest people there, and thus the most likely *not* to have a way out of the city, it’s not surprising there are more of them left. And that explains why there are more photos of them looting.

The City of New Orleans should secede from the US, declare war with the US, surrender, and then request foreign aid and war reparations. They’d get the help they need a lot faster.

The looting is clearly being dominated by the African Americans in New Orleans. I can understand food and water, that a need to survive. Electronic equipment, thats just plane greed. Guns, thats just plain gang banger behavior. Where is Jesse now? I am totally surprised he has not declare the hurricane a means of oppression by white people on his black brothers.

Indeed Tony, Too much racism going on. Now we are making white people look bad. Put yourself in their shoes and don’t lay blame on all one race. Being as the poor were predominatley african american and the poor being the least able to get out in time, of coure the looting is predominatley AA people. Stealing electronics, yes that is totally wrong, stealing food, another story. Lets concentrate on what is important here, stayig alive.

The people who ran out of food and water in one day in New Orleans needed to be better prepared. Hurricane Katrina sat in the gulf for days building strength and people were warned that it was coming their way. Several things happen when a hurricaine hits you. One, you lose power often for several days or weeks. Two, there is usually flooding. Three, there is usually destruction of stores and businesses. Regardless of the flooding in New Orleans, did these people expect the Winn Dixie to be open Monday afternoon after the hurricaine blew by them? They should have stored food and water for at least a week if not more.

Jim says:

I was crushed by the account of one man who explained that he was holding on to his wife as the house began to break up. She could no longer cling to his grip. She wished him love and love for the children and then was pulled away by the moving waters. There was another man who died at his wife’s side as his oxygen tank ran out of supply.

In both situations, their deaths were needless. Had more people taken the evacuation orders seriously, then they most likely would have had a chance to live. Yes, I understand that many may not have had a vehicle or money to take to the highways as most others did. But there should have been a way to make it to safe harbor. Couldn’t someone with a car provided room for a stranger? As the National Guard was activated, couldn’t they “our great official leaders” provided small boats, buses ,trucks or even aircraft to take the less fortunate to safe ground? I saw so many elderly, helplessly fending for themselves with no one of authority to assist them. Where is the compassion of humanity?

As I watched the masses pour into the Superdome for so called safety, I just shook my head. Why would our government place people by the thousands into an area that would surely be affected by the forces of nature without proper amount of food, water and sanitation? And worse yet, be forced to stay in the structure under National Guard security. Do we as a nation give less value to human life if they are the poor without resources for themselves? Was it the distorted thinking of the powers that be that it would be better to contain “the poor and elderly” than to provide a safe land away from the doomed city? It was more cost effective to detain them. Is that the way we think?

We still have thousands trapped fighting time against the rushing waters pouring into the city. We have elderly that have been left behind in hospitals and nursing homes without hope. Are they not worth value as a human? We have prisoners held down in cells who are being forced to live without basic needs, with little to no hope of being transported to another prison and have taken measures in their own hands by small riots (not being reported in the news media) who have taken hostages.

Common sense should have been used from the very beginning. The federal, state and local governments knew what was going to happen and they were hoping against the odds. Rather than all the officials sitting in a hotel room with coffee and Danish, thinking about who’s in charge, they should have been on the phones demanding all resources into action before the storm hit. They had the time! Sure, they announced an evacuation to all the people, but they didn’t bother making the resources available to those who needed it, the thousands of people who couldn’t make it out on their own. They either forgot about them or really didn’t care about the less desired people of society.

Coast Guard, National Guard, State Police, and all the official and private organizations should have been called into action once it was obvious that the Gulf Coast was in a clear and present danger. Overkill on resources in the beginning would have clearly been the right humane choice rather than the “let’s wait and see what happens” attitude that officials took.

Then there is the widespread looting throughout the city in crisis. I can understand taking matters in your own hands looking for food and water to survive, especially when rescue help can’t get to you, but my god, taking computers, TVs, DVDs, Nike sneaks and anything a person just felt like taking… Is this humanity at its true nature when all sense of law and order is absent? Are we nothing more than barbaric animals? Or is it when all our backs were turned away from the helping these trapped people, they had to fight for themselves at all costs?

Does compassion for our fellow man only happen when everything else is going smoothly in our own lives? Can it be that we aren’t shown video of “a cute blond haired girl clutching to her mothers hand” that no one really is showing too much compassion? I guess the poor, elderly and blacks of the Deep South don’t really amount to being human enough. After all, we have the weekend barbeques and high gas prices on our minds. And let’s not forget our thirst for the latest video of the unfolding long drawn out events of a missing girl down in Aruba day after day. This is humanity?

Rather than shake our heads in disgust at the civil unrest in New Orleans and other hit areas, we should look in the mirror and lower our heads in shame.

Patti says:

I am in tears over the devastation that has hit these poor families in the Gulf Coast region. My question “Where was our president?” comes to mind over and over. He made a speech in my home state of AZ on Monday when all hell was breaking loose. He was promoting his own agenda. To make matters worse, he made another speech in CA the next day. This was not the tsunami that came without warning. Why did our president not put into place all the services needed in advance of the hurricane? These services could have been on the ready to mobilize the day prior to the storm. If not needed, they could have been canceled. The president posturing for his own benefit is enraging. I don’t even have family members in the area. I could not imagine what those hit by the hurricane can possibly be thinking about
the seeming abandonment by our government. I see comparisons to the tsunami in terms of destruction. We had days of warning. These cities are major metropolitan areas, not cities only reached by back roads. They are obviously reachable by boat or ship. Mr. Bush should be ashamed that he did nothing. I am curious to know if the same delays occurred last year in Florida when his brother’s state had similar devastation.

Update to last comments. I got on CNN.com for their coverage of hurricane Charlie. It hit land Friday, Aug. 13. By Saturday AM, according to their reports, convoys of trucks were headed to the region. By Sunday, Pres. Bush was making a trip to the region to survey the damage. Again, my question…where is our president??? It took him 48 hrs. to begin to send aid. I know the most important issue at this moment is getting that aid, however delayed,to the those who need it. I would like to see those in our government held accountable for their delay in action at the appropriate time.

I am ashamed of our president, no not of my country, people of our country are pouring, in the media is pouring in to help these people of New Orleans, Missippi and other areas devastated by the hurricane but you Bush are hem hawing around on vacation (oh boy you dropped 2 days whoopie) and giving speeches (that was so much more important) than organizing search and rescue mission or even going to view the damages or organizing fly-overs to drop emergency packages to the stranded weak elderly and poor. HOW MANY DAYS DID IT TAKE YOU TO RESPOND, OH but they are just the old and weak and poor right. I realize the concern of the safety of the rescuers but you could have had emergency boats, trucks etc go in and get them evacuated when the first mention of the hurricane came (up a few days before it hit) and had a couple of days to get those elderly, weak and poor but they werent worth the risk right. Where are the other governments we have helped in the past, where’s our help. when are you going to concentrate on helping America . When other countries are hit with a tragedy we are right there.
I am glad when the elections come up. and I’m so glad I DID NOT put you in that office.
May God Bless America and those devastated by the hurricane.

Look everyone, black, white, yellow and red…right is right and wrong is wrong. We are all human. I know a human life of ANY RACE is worth more than a plasma TV!!! Looting is wrong, BUT how do you judge someone stuck in the middle of a waterlogged city! GET HIM/HER OUT OF THERE!!! 10 TVs, jewelry or whatever…..what are they going to do with them after stealing them? So, instead of shooting them, why not focus on getting them out, to a functional society? Anything is bound to happen - the place is a HEALTH HAZARD from every perceivable angle. Besides, the stores probably have insurance on their property, this doesn’t make it right for another person to steal, but it is replaceable! It’s surprising, how the wake of this destruction brings out the TRUE colors of Americans. Priorities are all backwards. And those of you who voted now you know whether your choice was right or wrong. Deal with it! How does it take 3-5 days to see any REAL control over something of this magnitude?

Seeing the tragedy unfold it is heart breaking! The authorities keep saying that help is on the way but it has been 4 days! and people are desperate waiting for basic supplies of drinking water and some food. You have thousands of people stranded like animals at the Superdome. Little babies crying hungry, wet, and thirsty with their mothers desperate in anguish. Why can’t helicopters drop water bottles and food supplies while these people wait for transportation out of the mayhem? There is seems to be nobody in authority that knows what is going on. We have the equipment to deliver water bottles and food by air. It is done in every disaster around the world. THESE PEOPLE, THESE BABIES CANNOT WAIT ANOTHER DAY OR LONGER FOR our INEPT OFFICIALS to do something! ENOUGH is ENOUGH. I would like to go myself right now to bring water and food but the government has the roads blocked off. Wake up AMERICA!

mitch says:

AHHHH, in the aftermath the finger pointing begins! The worst natural disaster in the history of the United States and it MUST be someones fault, right?First of all, preparing for a hurricane hit is up to the individual states possibly in harms way. Doesnt anyone remember that three days before Katrina hit LA. weather forcasters were predicting it would hit the Fla. panhandle.Do you realise that in less than 3 days most of New Orleans and the surrounding area was completely evacuated!!! This was due to great work by the state and city gov’s. People should be thanking these people!
Looting is inexcusable. Taking whats needed to survive is fine. Taking other peoples property out of greed is intolerable and I hope there is a special place in hell for these people.
The city is flooded!!! Getting relief in takes time . Being shot at just slows the process. These are extremely trying times and my heart goes out to ALL those involved. I cant begin to imagine what its like. I do know , however, that looking for scapegoats in the wake of such a tragedy is an insult to those who are working their asses off to help these people! So, sit around and blame the President if you wish, but I prefer to do something more meaningful.P.S. RFJ,Jr. in his pea brained wisdom blames the whole thing on the gov. of Miss. and his influencing pres. bush not to sign the Kyoto agreement. What a loony knucklehead!!!!!

IMPEACH BUSH
First: Oil/Gas & pipeline gets addressed before the human horror?
Second: Looting in black neighborhoods is called doing what’s need to survive in white neighborhoods…tell me that’s not a legacy of racism and slavery.
Third: The govenor of LA and mayor of New Orleans begged for help immediately and all we have 2,800 national guard troops? How is that adequate response? Is that because we lack the military resources?
BUSH HAS NOT LED THE NATION DURING THIS CRISIS…HE CUT HIS VACATION SHORT BY 2 DAYS ONLY AFTER IT APPEARED THIS IS THE LARGEST NATURAL DISASTER IN 100 YEARS.

What is wrong with all the black Americans of New Orleans? Regardless of what so many people say, they are truly responsible for their actions. It is not societies fault that they are ignorant, poor, and criminal. Blacks have been given the same chances as any other person in America for decades now. During this time of disaster, ones conduct speaks of their true nature. I hope every one across the nation is paying close attention.

September 1st, 2005 at 6:16 PM

Michael says:

After watching scene after scene of looting for the past three days, I’ve come to the conclusion that the black race oughtto be ashamed of themselves. The structure of society breaks downfor a day and a half and people start acting like a bunch of animals. What’s interesting is that out of all the news reports I’ve seen, only once did I see a white person involved in the looting. Why is that? Has anyone else noticed this? Somebody has got to acknowledge this instead of pretendingnot to notice out of fear that they will be called a racist. The cameras don’t lie. And yes, I’m aware of the fact that many of these neighborhoods are disproportionately black. I’m just waiting for some schmuck like Jesse Jackson to start making up excuses for the behavior of his race during this catastrophe when this whole thing starts to blow over. It’s no wonder that the black race in this country feels oppressed at times,
as it is this very behavior that invites negative judgment. They have no one to blame but themselves. Maybe this crisis will be a wake-up call for the black community to stop making excuses for themselves and stop playing the role of victim. Guess what, you’re not entitled to anything, just like the rest of us, least of all other people’s property. Last but not least, I believe this goes for all people and all races.

For all the ignorant racist out there: It’s not about race, its about economic class. If an African explorer had found the “new world”, and had gone to Europe to get slaves for the plantations in the 1700 and 1800’s. All those “poor” people would be white. The system has been an uphill battle for blacks for centuries. These people have been born into poverty, and were born into this city. Before you judge people by the color of their skin, realize we don’t choose our color, nor the town we’re born in. By the way, I’m a white male from Mississippi, so save me the typical racist replies. God Bless “All” of America.

Ryan says:

I cannot believe the ludicrous audacity of those blaming PRESIDENT Bush. It takes a special kind of pent up bitteness to blame a president for the aftermath of a hurricane. If one person was naive EVERYONE WAS! ALL the major news outlets were collectively wiping their brow and saying that NOLA dodged the majority of the destruction of Katrina. No one was predicting that the levy was going to fail. No one was predicting that thousands would have to be herded into the Superdome.

Anyone blaming our President for the aftermath is so apparently biased and blindly grasping at straws. Its pathetic!

September 1st, 2005 at 10:54 PM

Mallorie says:

Funny how when the tsunami happened no one blamed the crazy Indians and Asians for looting based on their race. Why aren’t we pulling together as a nation to help these people? After September 11th we united and did what we had to do to help our fellow neighbors get through the hard time, but now that we don’t have an Osama bin Laden to blame we feel it necessary to find someone to blame rather than to swallow our pride and help those who are dying in that city? What has happened to our country? Please help anyway you can, the truth is that none of us have ever been in a situation like those in New Orleans or in the position of our leaders dealing with a situation like New Orleans, therefore, none of us have any right to point blame, the most we can do is help, right?

September 1st, 2005 at 10:56 PM

Barb says:

I think if you’re running out of food, essentials, go ahead. The stores are insured, it’s better then people dying. We’ve already had enough of that. But TVs…electronics…the only essential I could see in there might be a cell phone to contact family.

And it’s not about if you’re black or white guys. It’s about your deeds. Sure, if the majority of the population had been white, the majority of the looters would’ve been white. Nobody would’ve bothered pointing that out. America’s just too darn color-concious.

And about President…

What about SUPPORTING your leader? Do you honestly think that he isn’t doing everything he can? Do you honestly believe he reads about the tradegies occuring and doesn’t care as much as you or I?

The problem is, everyone has become too dependent on the goverment to bail them out. Those who don’t want to wait get the guns, and help themselves. I say it’s New Orlean’s criminals who should be ashamed of themselves. They’re going to end up causing as much trouble as Katrina.

Instead of squibbling about AA’S who are raping, looting and acting like animals, or whites who are raping, looting and acting like animals, why don’t you SHUT UP and HELP! Donate money, etc.

Just shut up about the prez. He’s doing a heck of a lot more then most of you are. Why not support him now, instead of shrinking back and pointing fingers? It’s like a bunch of whining kids.

It’s not blacks or whites that have “shown their true colors.” It’s New Orleans. And the result is sad, sad, sad. You push it, and fabric of community comes apart.

Let’s give it our prayers.

September 1st, 2005 at 10:57 PM

Dennis says:

Facts are facts….the predominent people that are doing the looting are AA’s and they are poor without many resources, except for what the government gives them. They failed to heed the warnings; the failed to believe that this was going to be a bad event; and they have failed, once again, to take personal responsibility for their own consequences. Yet now, it is the government’s responsbility to feed them, water them and clothe them as well as provide housing. People should start pointing the finger at themselves as the cause of their problems and not the government. They failed to adhear to the government warnings….and now they blame the same government for their plight…..yet, it will never end. But I am sure Jessie will have something to say…

But those who are going around trashing the place, well, lets just say they are in their natural enviornment now. I was reading a posting that most people there can’t swim……:x

It is not the responsibility of the Federal Government to provide oil at a cheap price to the American people, so if prices go up, don’t blame anybody but yourself, or the person driving that big SUV, Hummer, or other gas-guzzling beast down the street.

On another note, Bush doesn’t really care about the poor. If he did, he would have done more for them, long before Katrina blew ashore.

The federal government nor George Bush is responsible for what is happening in New Orleans. Were they responsible for the tsunami is SE Asia???? I just heard a nurse working in a hospital in New Orleans and she was saying that they had no help from the local government. They fed the few patients they still cared for 2 or three ravioli’s last night. She had not seen FEMA, The Red Cross or even the local police. The only way they have survived is by all of the doctors and nurses and support people that VOLUNTEERED to stay pulling together and giving 200%. I believe the city, county and state officials should be ashamed of their performance. They obviously were not prepared for ANY kind of emergeny situation. Any of you want to point fingers? Start pointing them at the local elected officials that are supposed to work for their constituents. Sure, they’re all scrambling around now trying to get something done after the disater has already struck. It was THEIR job to have plans in place to handle a disaster. They failed…they are incompetent! NO EXCUSES! The monsters, and don’t anyone tell me they are not monsters, that are down there behaving in the most abhorrent way need to rounded up and exterminated, like the parasites they are! They do not deserve to be defended. The pitiful people that found themselves stranded there because they were poor or imobile, they are the ones that need our help. So are the people that did get out and now have nothing to come back to. I pray that God blesses them and shows them the mercy that they deserve and I hope he damns all the “monsters” that are down there taking advatage of a horrible situation. My prayers are with all those affected by this disater, including the National Guard, the Coast Guard and all the other Federal agencies involved, the volunteers, the media that bring us the information, and all lthe families of the aforementioned!

Andrew says:

I don’t even know where to begin… I’ll start by saying that I offer my sincere condolences for all those who have lost loved ones as a result of this disaster, and I offer my prayers for those who are still searching for their loved ones.

Observation 1:
How can officials say: “We called a mandatory evacuation of the city, why didn’t these people leave?” If you look at who is left in New Orleans you’ll see it’s the poor and elderly, how the hell are they suppose to leave? Wouldn’t it have been cheaper to arrange for buses to evacuate the poor and elderly from the city before the hurricane struck? Your President can launch a “Preemptive” war on Iraq based on a lie (which is costing you billions per month), but can’t preemptively protect his own people on American soil? Just like in Iraq, he is more concerned with the oil refineries in the gulf then he is with the loss of American civilians.

Observation 2:
Where is the President during this crisis? He was quicker to publicly address the World during the Tsunami disaster in South Asia? Not that his speech would be any different from any other speech that he has delivered in the last 4 years (full of buzz words from his extensive (sarcastic) vocabulary and delivered with no sincere emotion). How was he re-elected? His approval ratings are now taking a dramatic nose dive; how come the voting majority of the American public did not see how incompetent he was back in November 2004? However, maybe its better that he has to deal with the mess he created for another 4 years!

Observation 3:
The chaos in New Orleans is a clear example of what happens when you build a city/country largely based on race/class divisions and defend the right to bear arms. Where else can civilians go to the local gun store and purchase military grade weapons, and then some wonder why gun violence is so prevalent within American society. This is not a racist rant, its reality!

I apologize if I have offended anyone, but I really needed to get that off my chest.

I know that looting is wrong but everyone needs to take into consideration that these people have been through an extremely traumatic experience and now are dealing with heat, exhaustion, starvation and dehydration and just those things alone can cause a person to start acting in a way that they normally would not so unless you have ever been in their situation and I have then you don’t need to criticize them they are doing what they need to survive. This is the worst natural disaster in US history so instead of pointing fingers and saying those people should have left how about shutting up and reach into your pockets and DONATE DONATE DONATE you don’t need that night out to dinner or that new CD they need shelter and food and water so quit criticizing and do SOMETHING to help. I live in Baldwin County AL just east of the devastation I don’t have much but I can supply some shelter for a family in need by way of a 3 room tent on my property and use of my home in what ever way needed you can e-mail me at sweetmom_3@yahoo.com children and pets are welcome. God bless all of you even the ones who are to busy pointing fingers to realize the severity of the situation.

Mark Morton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada says:

I think that what is happening in the aftermath of Katrina is a testament to how U.S. society as a whole normally maintains social equilibrium by directing numerous opposing and intense forces against one another. The result, so long as the forces are all pitted against one another, is “stability,” but only in the way that two powerful locomotives that are pushing against one another are stable. As soon as one member of such a system gives way, then the whole system collapses. In the U.S. the engine that drives the system — whether it’s in its “stable” incarnation or in the unstable incarnation that we now see in New Orleans — is individualism taken to its dysfunctional extreme. Is this a problem that is unique to the U.S.? I fear it is. I find it hard to imagine that the extent of the looting, the raping of the victims, the firing upon rescue workers, would occur in Helsinki, or London, or Vancouver, or Madrid, or Athens. The American ethos is, at heart, a self-centred one (the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” has a dark side where “life” becomes “MY life,” where MY liberty is founded on YOUR exploitation, and where happiness becomes mere pleasure). That doesn’t mean that the American people themselves are, at heart, selfish. But it does mean that the ideological selfishness that is latent in the system and culture can quickly and easily rise to the surface in times of crisis.

To Stuart and Dennis-

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: the reason you see so many blacks looting is because the city is majority black! I have seen whites looting just as much on television, so let’s not generalize too much. Stuart, you say that we ( I am an African American woman born and raised in New Orleans) have had the same opportunities and treatment for decades now- that adds up to about what, 20 years? The problem is we have been here for generations, not decades.
Dennis-
Society is not to blame, you say, for their (our) situations. I beg to differ. While each individual is responsible for his/her own actions, YOU MUST ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR ROLE IN HOW WE ARE PERCEIVED! That is where society comes in. For those of you who resent having to CLOTHE THEM, WATER AND FEED THEM (not sure who them is), realize that the people you are clothing, watering, and feeding in Iraq are costing you more than money - the currency is much more valuable.
Now, about public assistance-
The majority of pople on welfare in this country are indeed WHITE! Do your research.
Thank you, by the way, my fellow americans, for coming as close as possible to calling us the savages you think we are- honesty is a good thing.

Dave Rosenfeld says:

Our president has no interest in New Orleans. What is there? poor blacks? George acts decisively only when he sees an opportunity to make money for himself and his base, like in Iraq. I hope he would be impeached and I regret it would be over Katrina and not his conflict of interest. What a shame! His greed and stupidity have drained America in just a couple of years, morally and financially.

Rick from SanDiego says:

I wish the left leaning media would stop using this as an opportunity to politicize the tragedy of Katrina against Bush and his govt. This recovery/emergency needs to be resolved by the local people on the ground and local/state govt. I would suggest that the mayor and elected officals in the areas are at fault for not coordinating and having a plan!

September 2nd, 2005 at 1:05 PM

Andrew says:

Um, they did have a plan. And they had begged for Federal money to shore up the levees they said would burst. But they were denied — they got less than half the funds they asked for — in part because the money was needed for Iraq.

Further, this kind of thing is exactly what the Department of Homeland Security is supposed to help with.

So it seems perfectly legit to lay the blame on the Bush administration and the Feds. They were happy to give millions for a bridge to nowhere in Alaska, but not to shore up the levees.

Did we not learn painfully from 9/11 that assistance would have to be immediate not mobilized 3 or 4 day’s later! Did we not learn that all goverment agencies needed to work together! I know I thought we did and so did most of the people in this United States Of America. UNITED is the key hear!!!

Stuart says:

My wife and I don’t really have money to make a difference, but we’ll send what we can. Her mother recently died at the age of 87 and left some really nice clothes and some other things behind. We’ll send what we can that is appropriate. She was a nurse during WWII and surely would be sending something herself.

Otherwise, I think that a proper and important use of time would be to join whatever effort possible to give George Bush hell and the Republican Party the beating they so richly deserve in 2006 and 2008.

To those of you who may think this unseemly in the midst of a discussion about disaster relief, wake up.
This president is reponsible for a level of destruction nationall and internationally that may be harder to see than a hurricane’s, but it is about time it ended. A
war in Iraq based on lies, putting the interests of the rich ahead of the middle class and the poor, cutting monies to improve New Orleans’ flood control system.
It goes on and on. I think people who can see straight and who are aware of the truth of this should be angry enough to make Bush and his neocoms feel the wrath of our hurricane at the polls.

September 2nd, 2005 at 2:39 PM

Mike S says:

Col. Terry Ebbert, director of homeland security for New Orleans, concurred and was
particularly pungent in his criticism. Asserting that the whole recovery operation had been
“carried on the backs of the little guys for four goddamn days,” he complained that
“the rest of the goddamn nation can’t get us any resources for security.”

“We are like little birds with our mouths open, and you don’t have to be very smart
to know where to drop the worm,” he said. “It’s criminal within the confines of the
United States that within one hour of the hurricane they weren’t force-feeding us. It’s like
FEMA has never been to a hurricane.” FEMA is the Federal Emergency Management
Agency.

People are resorting to their natural/primitive instincts as they are hungry, thirsty (basics for survival of all life) and desperate to get out of that area, whether they have to murder for a car or kill for gas money…

Looting WalMart for a wide screen TV where there is no electricity is called stealing (holding a gun to someones head to steal their car is called armed robery and maybe even attempt of murder). Looting a store for water, medical needs (medications previously prescribed or needed in an emergency) and non perishible food (necesities) is called survival of the fitest…

Many people think that this looting and stealing is a stereotypical race thing, well let me tell you that where those awful videos come from, the majority (at least 75%) of the people there are African-Americans, so please stop race bashing, if this happened in New York City, you’d probably see more white people panicing and doing stupid things! Let’s starve and neglect you of food/shelter/water/relief, plus emerge in neck deep water (ancient chinese water torture) and lets see how civilized you remain…

The people of the coast did what they have always done to prepare for a hurricane. This time the storm was bigger than their preparations. Rather than criticize, condemn and point fingers as to what went wrong, we should do what we can to help whether its giving money or if possible volunteering to help in any capacity that can be used. We are all Americans. We are a great nation, but all of the politicizing and quick judgement is not changing anything. The important thing in the midst of going about helping these citizens in all the chaos is to learn from it and move on.

The cities & states housing these people could also become defendants if they fell they have been mistreated. Knowing lawyers any one housing these people could also become defendants if they feel like they aren’t receiving the threatment they deserve. Why not, after all, it’s free money.

Where in the world are you going to find an impartial jury to hear cases like this ? In all likely hood they will be successful and it will cost American taxpayers billions, that’s with a big B, to settle.

I don’t know any black people that choose to stay by choice and ride out a hurricane or any major storm. Whenever a storm is approaching, who do you see on television having hurricane parties and surfing in the waves? White people. You have to know that these people did not have a way to get out. Bonnie since you are into clues and answers, you tell me why it took five days for the govt. to get there and do something. How many days does it take for the U.S. to respond to countries on the other side of the world? This is not only about a majority of the people being black. These people are poor. If they were wealthy or if the government thought they were of value, the response time would have been so much faster.

Sally says:

Now is not the time to be bellyaching about what was or wasn’t done. This was a tragedy of errors committed over the years culminating in lots of things just not coming together.

1. The Mayor should have–when urged by Bush to order a mandatory evacuation–arranged for the buses to haul the people out that couldn’t afford to do it on their own. That is part of the planning process that was set up by the city. Buck stopper #1.

2. The head of the Corp of Engineers last night on TV said it would have taken 20 years to get the canals up to Cat 5 levels but the money was never used for that purpose. Buck stopper #2. (can’t blame war in Iraq for that)

3. Logistics played a big part in all of this. How do you move people, equipment, and supplies in to an area that is as widespread as this is and manage to hit the all the places that needed the help at the same time? It takes time to get things set up and while you are sending supplies and people down to help, you also need to make certain you have the equipment, supplies, etc. in place to take care of those who are helping with the evacuation. All the planning in the world would not have had these items available at the drop of a hat.

4. You can’t risk the life of the rescuers when people are shooting at them. When this started happening, you can’t blame those in charge from pulling back to take another look at how to approach this.

Frankly, it is quite amazing at the scope and magnitude of this disaster, that things have gone as well as they have. We all have the ability now to do something positive for these people, let’s pry open our wallets and do it and stop second-guessing every decision.

Whether you are a republican or democrat, negative energy saps the progress of everyone else.

Say some prayers for these people and help in every way that you can–without the negative complaints. Let’s pull together rather than tearing down.

There are many fingers in many directions that one can point to, but as Harry Truman said “the buck stops here.” Bush only met with Republican politicians on his first trip to the area. Why would he meet with the Republican Gov of Mississippi and not the Democrat Gov of LA, where most of the lives were lost? It was only TODAY that he met with her…….no warning he was coming and Blanco had to drop everything to meet with him today. I guess he was in a hurry to repair his political damage. Pointing fingers at local politicians as way to excuse President Bush from his failure makes you an accompolis to his failure to safe guard Americans. It makes you guilty of playing politics with peoples lives. Those lives will be your burdon just as they are all of the officials who did to little to late. What do you think only Democrats died in NOLA? I was unhappy with Bush before now I’m just plain pissed.

sally says:

While this is a very emotional subject, you can’t deal with things like this on an emotional level. If you step back a moment and rationally think things through, you will realize that there was just too much ground to cover to get things done as everyone would have liked them to be done. If they would have gone in and removed the people from the convention center right away, then the people clinging to roof tops wouldn’t have made it; if the superdome was left until the end, then that would have been a big mistake. They couldn’t do everything at one time…logistically, there was no place to put them and no way with the conditions as they were to get them to a place of safety. It is not the government’s fault that this place turned into a place of such horror. Sometimes people have to do for themselves in situations that suck! I have often wondered what our generation would have done if we would have been stuck in the days of WWII where rationing was in place and we were faced with not having the things we wanted. If this is how we would have reacted to events, we would be doomed for sure.

No one IN THEIR RIGHT MIND believes that the President is being a racist and hates blacks. That is just blindly following the rhetoric of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and the like. These guys aren’t helping the situation–only fomenting more anger.

Please put aside your emotion and use some logic. The only way things are going to get done is if they are done in a logical, rational, thoroughly-thought-through manner. You can’t throw good money after bad so let’s take a collective breath and do some positive thinking.

I’m sitting a thousand miles away and this isn’t impacting me like it is you, although I’ve cried plenty watching the suffering. However, it doesn’t help those who are hurting for us to shoot nasty words at each other. There is plenty of time for looking at this stuff later. At the moment, they don’t need this. They need help–money, whatever we can do. Let’s stop hurting our country even more by this rampant politicizing of every event that comes along.

Don’t worry, it will only be all of them running out in their name brand tennis shoes talking on their cell phones screaming “they want me to “GO TO WORK”@!!!! NO WAY…… They are only interested in having babies, staying at home and living off the government! You watch and see… and Mr. Walton.. of Walmart.. go ahead and hire others for those opening.. cause it sure won’t be the people from New Orleans who take them!
GO BUSH… YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PRESIDENT AND HAVE DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB!

El Deguello says:

Ray Nagin, Kathleen Babineaux Blanco and Ted Kopell have decreed that as an American citizen I’m no longer responsible for my well-being or, during times of diversity, my actions. That responsibility belongs solely to President George Bush and the U.S. Federal Government, a constitutional amendment will soon be announced. Boy, I’m sure relieved to know that someone else if now responsible for all that. Can hardly wait for the winter blizzards so all those people up North can become real patriots.

September 5th, 2005 at 9:55 PM

El Duguello says:

The Nagin/Blanco/Barbour conspiracy?

Realistically, if all those poor blacks & white had fled the city the end result would have been about the same; half a million plus poor, jobless and homeless people parked on the side of the road somewhere in LA or MS without money, food, water or gas. Taking care of all these people would have fallen squarely on the shoulders of the state government and media coverage would not have been as nearly as dramatic or as dire.

By allowing all these people to stay in the city that the local & state officials knew was doomed for disaster they were able to divert the responsibility and cost to the Federal Government and they also then has a scrape goat for their inadequacies. They blame Bush and the feds for their problems but refuse to relinquish control of the area to the military. Right now these politicians have the best of all worlds; they have managed to export a large segment of the poor and dependant population who will never return out of the state; they have put the cost of transporting & caring for all these people to the feds; the land where all these homes stood will be recovered and sold to more enterprising development as in casino’s and they have managed to place all the blame on President Bush.

Think about it and all the possible scenarios, The world turns on politics and who’s in power. Leaders plot and implement political assassinations every day, remember Caesar?

2. Biggest evacuation in history of US
3. Disaster overwhelmed state/local government
4. Federal government failed to respond
5. People died

Help us.

Richard Glover Sr says:

I don’t normally make comments over the internet about things like this. But I have been hearing and watching all of these news people and the politicians trying there best to put the blame for this on the President. I grant you there will be enought blame to go around when this is all over. But this is not the time for that.
But if you news people and politicians have just got to blame somebody now, then let us start at the bottom not the top. The mayor of New Orleans had over 400 school buses and all of the city buses at his disposal to use for the evacuation of his city, but he did not use them.WHY?
Read the evacaution plan of the city then you can ask WHY again. He did not even try to use those buses to evacuate the hospitals or the nursing homes. Instead all of those buses were left parked in the city to be covered with water.
The mayor made some wrong judgments, so before you start running your mouth and calling other people names and blaming everbody else, you better take a good look at yourself Mr. Mayor and ask yourself if you could have done more. By-the-way if he had use those buses the city could have been evacuate in two days.

From the Eye says:

First of all, ANDREW.. keep your toupe’ on! Yes, an EXCELLENT job, but a liberal would never utter those words unless he were of their own political persuation. Thank God Bush (an Christian) was in the oval office and not Clinton..he probably would have been busy with an Intern & Cigar in the oval office! That’s comforting! Let me ask, Mr. Liberal… are you out there volunteering in the devistated areas? I bet not… you just sit in your room..friendless, I’m sure “playing on your computer” and whatever else you play with!?!?!?!?!? Hey, did your disability check come yet? Your welfare check? Your disaster relief check yet?
The “FACT” is President Bush urged the Gov. of La..Blanco to declare a “mandatory evacuation”..she nor the great Mayor of N.O. was going to do that, I bet you didn’t know that!!! This was a Cat 5 …. not just a tropical storm. The government does not just take over unless prompted by the leaders of the state, which I might add was not done in a timely manner! The blame should start right in Lousiana and Mississippi! There is also 90 THOUSAND SQUARE MILES OF DEVISTATION…. a daunting task. If the Gov. and Mayor would have put the school buses and public transportation to use they could have evacuated thousands… THE FACT IS THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT FAILED! I bet the situation would have been the same no matter who was the Gov, Mayor, President…. Your eaten up with liberalism…. go get in line for your next meal… and handouts! I perceive you wouldn’t know how to be self sufficient! Those people should have been… more PRO ACTIVE since they live in that area.

James says:

Help would have been there sooner if the Mayor had asked for help instead of whining. AND, where’s the governor? The only time I saw here was with the President.

Plaquemines Parish, Sheriff Jeff Hingle blocked off the roads, organized his people, went to stores, schools and other places. He took the food, weapons, and other items needed for his citizens to survive to a central location. They are all eating and cleaning up.

This is organization at its finest.
Where’s the leadership for New Orleans and the rest of the State?

The sheriff also says he knows how to deal with looters — shoot to kill.
This Louisiana sheriff is not kidding when he says that if you come to his community to loot, you will not leave alive.
Hingle has deputized an additional 150 officers, armed them with rifles and six boxes of bullets each.
He has stationed them on the border of Orleans Parish and says he plans to nip this problem in the bud.
He says if New Orleans would start shooting its looters, the problem would soon cease.

This was not an ATTACK on the U.S. like 9/11. The FEDS WAIT until the are ASKED by local officials for help.

Personal I do not think Bush should “head” the investigations for the late and poor responds from FEAM to the victims of Katrina. I think this should consist of a panel of men and woman much like the panel who did the infestations after 911 consisted of. A panel of men and woman who have no personal or political gain for uncovering the truth. Did we all forget Bush and his administration did not want to hold the investigations? It was the families of the victims who demanded answers. I regret to say I do not think that Bush would tell the truth, for the fact of the matter is his is at the top of this list of those who failed all those Americans. Once again this is a man who never has a plan. The truth of the matter is this ball for assistance did not really begin until Americans began to demand our government to help other Americans, not refugees as they have been called, but Americans!

First of all Pauline, please, learn how to spell and use the Kings English appropriately before you respond to another e-mail!
Second, I believe in President Bush! I think he is a good caring “HONEST” man who cares! It’s rather hard at times, when you have so many “UNINFORMED” doing nothing but “LOOKING” FOR THINGS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE MAN! Most of the negative constant complainers don’t have the education to probably add 2 + 2 and get 4! DUH! People hated and still hate Ronald Reagan, but he will go down and one of our greatest Presidents in history!
Do any of you know, that the PHD of the National Weather Service called Gov. Blonco THURSDAY and asked her to sign a mandatory evaucation for the area and she did NOTHING!!!! The same thing was asked of the Mayor of N.O. and he did NOTHING! In the New Orleans disaster manual it calls for the school buses, public transportation buses, private transportation to evacuate people in the event of a major hurricane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have viewed any of the area, I’m quite sure most of you have seen the hundreds of school buses almost under water…………….. WHAT DID THE MAYOR DO? WHAT DID THE GOVERNOR DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY DIDN’T EVEN FOLLOW THEIR OWN EVACUATION POLICIES AND NOW THEY WANT TO CRY HELP SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE SOONER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GIVE ME A BREAK! Too many citizens depend on Uncle Sam to ALWAYS come to their rescue, when they should learn to help themselves! My husband died a little over a year ago…I work, I pay my bills, I struggle payday to payday… but I’m not in ANY LINE for a hand out and never will! I have too much pride for that, and if I had to work two jobs I would. The government DOES NOT OWE ME A LIVING, FOOD, SHELTER, NOTHING!!!!! IT’S UP TO EACH OF US! And another thing!!!!!! Why do the poorest of the poor have child after child that they can’t take care of?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Then who do you think takes care of them???? DUH… your taxes do! Most can go to any clinic and get FREE medical care or they have Medicaid… there is NO EXCUSE FOR NOT GETTING BIRTH CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN IT!!!! WAKE UP PEOPLE….. WHILE WE TRY TO WORK AND MAKE ENDS MEET THESE PEOPLE ARE LAYING AROUND HAVING BABY AFTER BABY AND WE ARE TAKING CARE OF THEM…. How much money is poured into the educational system year after year.. trying to educate the poor… HA! Have the welfare rolls decreased? Heck no!!!! They don’t want to give up a good thing!!!!! WAKE UP AND GET TO WORK… HUNDREDS OF BABIES HAVE BEEN BORN AND NEED YOUR INCREASING TAX DOLLARS!

TO EYES: You have it right. I have been trying to explain to people up here that Mayor Nagin is the one at fault not President Bush. Nagin let his people sit there for 6 days & the day before the hurricane hit, he goes on t.v. & tells people this is not a test, you need to leave now. Why in god’s name, when they all knew for 7 days that Katrina was going to hit at a catagory 5 did he WAIT!!! Then after, he gets on the news and starts yelling profanity at the federal government to get off their ass and start helping all the poor people that stayed and were then trapped.
I am sick and tired now of all the black politicians claiming that it took so long because we are racist. Who in the hell do they think has been coming to the aid of these people, ghost, NO, the federal gov.’t, corporate white america, surrounding states, and private citizens, mostly white from what the tv news programs show.
I’m tired of them also trying to compare if there was a disaster in California, Chicago, or Miami that the president would have responded quicker. No, because those states would not have flooded. You cannot land a helicopter among power lines or in the dark. Any and every disaster is differant and will be differant according to where it will happen.
Why did all those people sit on there asses and wait for someone to tell them what to do, don’t they think for themselves? They know how to get where they have to go to apply for welfare, or to go get free food or medical care, how come they couldn’t get far enough away from the flooding and the devestation, WHY, because they were again waiting for someone to do it for them & there MAYOR didn’t come through. I think he wanted, in his heart, to get rid of as many people as he could, so they would stop being a burden on society and the resources of his city and thats why he didn’t follow evacuation procedures.

Andrew says:

I see your point. The president didn’t need to get involved. It didn’t demonstrate poor leadership to ignore the hurricane and continue his vacation — he was staying the course.

There was nothing he could have done, so congratulating the head of FEMA despite that organization’s colossal blunders was no big deal — after all, the state and local governments screwed up, so why should the leader of the federal government get bent out of shape?

And saying that no one expected the levees to break when in fact *everyone* expected it? That doesn’t demonstrate a disturbing lack of information, it was just a bit of down-home chit-chat.

And the continued failure of the federal government to mount a response to the human suffering we all saw? Not the president’s responsibility — again, it was the local government that failed, so no one should blame the feds for being slow to the gun.

So you’re right. No one should have expected Bush to act like a leader when clearly A) everything was fine, and B) it wasn’t his fault anyway.

September 7th, 2005 at 11:06 PM

Nina says:

There has been so much information on the help given by the masses to assist the victims of Katrina. An issue that hasn’t been addressed is the corporate entities that have failed their employees. With so many Louisiana citizens displaced and unable to return to their homes, where are the major corporations for which these people have dedicated so many years? Almost two weeks after Katrina, employees of the Kansas City Southern Railroad have no concrete information regarding the future of their jobs, disaster relief benefits or temporary housing for those who wish to return to work in the unaffected areas. Individuals across the country have opened their homes and pocket books and a multi-million dollar organization is more concerned with posting information about open lines than the welfare of their dedicated employees.

After over a decade of service one of these employees sits miles away from his home and waits, waits for any information that may assist him in determining where to go from here. One rumor suggests he may be allowed to take next years vacation now, that’s comforting because the hotel room he can’t afford in the city he had no desire to visit has been just like a vacation. He has been told “come to Baton Rouge, man. We will find you something; you can exercise your seniority”. What this really means is fill your car up with four-dollar-a-gallon gas and drive to a city with no housing and hopefully you can put another guy out of work by taking his job.

So many people find themselves in a precarious position, their homes are fine but the jobs they held are gone; no FEMA assistance to be expected because they are told FEMA is not a relocation service, but aren’t they. Didn’t the government relocate thousands and are they not giving them an opportunity to start lives in other areas with debit cards for food and housing. Isn’t loosing your means of support just as devastating as loosing your home. It is really just a prolonging of the inevitable. So we are expected to live in an area that has no immediate opportunities and a home we can no longer afford. I do not mean to undermine the terror so many of our citizens have endured and I do not wish to say that these individuals are not deserving of every bit of help they are being offered but possessions are meaningless if you are unable to provide for your future…unless the pawn shops open soon. So while we wait for the next customer service representative, the FEMA application to go to an address of a friend miles away, our number to be called at the nearest Red Cross site, our company takes its sweet time in determining if and when they will show their employees they appreciate that they worked till the morning before the storm to secure the line.

This is the reality of thoes of us who worked hard all our lives and end up comming out a dollar too poor but a quarter too rich.

El Deguello says:

Is Bush stressed out ????

From the recent catastrophe events now unfolding it appears that Bush is suffering from excessive stress syndrome. The first campaign and election was stressful enough but the events of 9-11 made the condition almost unimaginable. Nonetheless, he did a magnificent job of pulling things together and going after those who would do us harm in our own country. The results were of star war stuff.

His reelection campaign was another stressful event with Ohio being his salvation. All this while trying to hold the coalition together.

Then, the situation bogged down into a quagmire with no final end or solution in sight, and all those American heroes coming home under the flag , each one his responsibility, who can take that without feeling remorseful. The people of Iraq appear unable to govern themselves in a democracy. The free world is dragging a screaming and defiant people who are still clinging to first century values of religion into the space age of the 21 century. It would be like us still living under the inquisition yet having HD plasma Tvs.

To compound the problem there are those at home who want to bring the troops back home right now without even trying to solve the problems of Iraq. If left to their own accords Iraq would reelect Sodom Hussein or someone like him as dictator, it’s all they have even known. All that the free world has done would be for naught.

And then, just when you think things couldn’t get any worse, Katrina hits with the most destructive force even seen on this continent during modern times. The unraveling of politics and the destruction left in it’s wake is absolutely devastating to the stress already heaped upon the man in charge. From his personal appearances, speeches and posture it appears to me the man is stressed to the max. It wouldn’t surprise one iota to wake up one morning and learn that he passed during the night due to stroke or heart attack. Stress is a killer and most of us don’t know how much we can take until it’s too late. Very few of us could deal with his problems in a sane manner.

For his sake and the that of the American people I sincerely hope that the man hasn’t reached his maximum stress level.

I was caught up in the news reports. I have been drawn to one side and then the other as to who is to blame in this trajic aftermath of Katrina. But as the reports of more deaths are reported everyday. I am stunned! The local city, the state and federal all new of the total devastation a hurricane 3 or less could do to the levee systems. I did just a simple search and came up with dozens of articles/reports written about the potential total destruction and flooding that would occur. Even as recent as Hurricane LiLi 2002 were reports of this type of flooding and levee collapse. There is no excuse for this ignorance and total disregard for human life. This should be what is being talked about!!!!!! Not who is to blame for not responding soon enough but why was all of this ignored by everyone, why why why!!! Someone ask that question!
If you look at it as FEMA does studies about how to respond to a flooding because of failure of the levee’s from a hurricane 3 or more or even less and that is given to the state and local goverment. And they all new that it would take up to ten years to build levee’s to correct this problem and it wasn’t done. Who didn’t know this was going to HAPPEN!!!!! If I had the knowledge that my family was to be in harms way of something and did nothing about it would not I be held neglient. I am sure I would have been arrested and put in jail by now!!!!!!!!

I cried my heart out for the KATRINA victims but now I’m crying for myself. I am an elderly citizen of Charlotte who cannot find anyone to help me survive. I’ve worked all my life from the day I graduated high school up until June of 2003 and have paid taxes every year. I have helped people all my life and have been a concerned citizen and voter. I have even done jury duty. Now that I cannot work any longer because of illnesses that have taken over my body, there is NO PROGRAM in Charlotte that can help me like all the program available for the victims of the hurricanes. I was told by Social Services that there ARE NO PROGRAMS for the elderly to help them pay their rent and survive between appeals during the social security debacle. I think about all the money I’ve paid into social security over the years and they are fighting me tooth and nail to make sure I don’t get a dime of it back. I’ve had two total knee replacements. Need surgery on my right hand for carpal tunnel syndrome, have a serious respiratory illness that keeps me on oxygen 24/7, can’t walk to the bathroom without gasping for breath, yet they denied me Medicaid and said I was able to work. So that means I’m supposed to pull a big old oxygen machine behind me daily as I look for work. Do you really think anyone will give me a job like that. Plus I can’t do what I used to do because my fingers get numb to the point of me not being able to feel them. With all my illnesses, I’ve gain over 150 pounds so now I’m fat, to boot! Where do you expect me to get a job. How can I possibly earn a living? How can I pay my rent and utilities and do for myself when no one will allow me to do so? Yet there are no agencies available to assist the elderly when they cannot assist themselves. The Katrina victims are lucky to have someone to turn to. Where do I go?

First, he had gotten the state of Louisiana to put dikes around the swampland, and then he had had the state install huge pumps to drain it. in my view of the lateness of the response i’d hinge it on the present fight against terror in Iraq which has distracted Mr. George Bush and all assundry.
notwithstanding i’d like to be posted the real problem behind why the entire response was slow.

SAUNDRA says:

3 FAMILY MEMBERS OF MINE DROWNED IN THEIR HOME, THEY ARE DEAD. AND WHAT IS MAINLY SAID AND WRITTEN IS THAT PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE JUST LEFT AND THAT THEY WERE WARNED.
WHEN YOU HAVE NO PLACE TO GO, YOU SIMPLY CANNOT GO.
BUT THIS TYPE OF REMARK JUST SHOWS YOU THE HATRED AND
EVIL OF PEOPLE WHO DID NOT WANT TO HELP EVEN THOUGH IT IS THEIR JOB TO HELP. AND YOU DONOT HAVE TO BE A GENIUS TO REALIZE WHEN SOMEONE WANTS YOU TO DIE, (BEING LEFT IN THE
STREET WHILE DYING AND DROWNING FOR 5 DAYS STRAIGHT WITH NO DISASTER RELIEF IS PRETTY OBVIOUS) STILL, THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SUPPOSEDLY TRAINED AND PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE DID NOT STEP UP TO DO THEIR JOB, THEY CONTINUED TO COMPLAIN THAT THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY SHOULD HAVE LEFT AND THAT ITS ALL OF THEIR FAULT THAT THEY ARE IN THE TROUBLE THEY ARE IN. INSTEAD OF ROUNDING UP RESCUE STAFF TO SAVE THE PEOPLE SUFFOCATING IN THE WATER, ALL YOU HEARD AND CONTINUE TO SEE ARE NASTY REMARKS NO DIFFERENT FROM SPEECH AND TALK YOU WILL SEE ON WHITE SUPREMACIST WEBSITES LIKE VANGUARD, KKK, OR STORMFRONT. AND THEY ALL SAY THERE IS NO RACE ISSUE. OF COURSE THE GREATEST TRICK THE DEVIL EVER PLAYED WAS MAKING YOU BELIEVE HE DOES NOT EXIST.
THE ENTIRE RACISM PROBLEM IS BASED ON “WHITE” PEOPLE CLAIMING WITH SICK FERVOR AND SELF-ASSUREDNESS THAT THEY ARE BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE, BETTER THAN “BLACK” PEOPLE.
AND IF YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO SIT BACK AND OBSERVE,
YOU WILL SEE, “WHITE” PEOPLE HAVE NO PROOF OF SUPERIORITY.
ALL I HAVE SEEN SO FAR IS DESTRUCTION, HATE, MURDER,
VIOLENCE, HARASSMENT, RAPE, EVIL, AND PEOPLE WHO WILL DO NOTHING WHEN YOU ARE STRUGGLING FACE DOWN IN THE WATER OR HAVE LOST YOUR HOME AND FAMILY BECAUSE 15 FEET OF WATER WENT OVER YOUR HEAD. AT BEST, THEY WILL ACT, ONLY IF IT BENEFITS THEM AND HIDES THEIR BIGOTRY, WHICH THEY RIDE INTO THE GROUND AND USE POLITICALLY, AND OPENLY HARASS PEOPLE WITH, BUT THEN TURN AROUND AND DENY IT, WHEN ITS NOT A GLAMOROUS MOMENT. SUCH AS WHEN PEOPLE ARE DEAD IN THE STREET AND YOU NEED TO MAKE YOURSELF LOOK FASHIONABLE BY DOING NOTHING BUT MAKING NASTY REMARKS AT PEOPLE WHO ARE DEAD BECAUSE THEY WERE LEFT IN THE STREET FOR 5 DAYS,
OR WHEN YOU ARE ON THE NEWS AND YOU MUST SHOW THE PICTURE THAT THE RACIST COMMUNITY WILL ACCEPT. I AM WONDERING WHERE THE SUPERIORITY IS THAT THEY CLAIM, BECAUSE ALL I HAVE SEEN SO FAR IS PURE EVIL, NOTHING THAT WOULD PUT YOU IN THE TOP 2% OF MENSA.
THEY COULD HAVE USED THEIR SUPERIORITY TO GET UP OFF THEIR HOLIER-THAN-THOU ASSES AND HELP PEOPLE WHO SUFFERED AND DIED IN THE STREETS. BUT THEY COULD’NT, AND CAN’T, BECAUSE DARK SKIN, THE SHAPE OF YOUR NOSE, THE TEXTURE OF YOUR HAIR, AND NOT HAVING A SIX-FIGURE BANK ACCOUNT COULD NOT PERMIT THEM TO HELP PEOPLE DROWNING OR DYING.
SEPERATING PEOPLE FROM THEIR FAMILIES AND TAKING THEM OUT OF NEW ORLEANS, AND NOT HELPING THEM REBUILD, JUST SHOWS THE WHITE-SEPERATIST ATTITUDE. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY COULD SHOW GENUINE HUMANE FEELINGS FOR PEOPLE OF A DIFFERENT SKIN COLOUR AND BANK ACCOUNT, BUT WITH IGNORANT TRASH LIKE BUSH AND THE KKK AFFILIATES OF HIS, WE MUST FIGHT HARDER.
MAY YOLANDA, ROSE, AND GEORGE REST IN PEACE, LOVE YOU, MISS YOU, AND MY DEEPEST APOLOGIES FOR YOUR SUFFERING
I WISH THAT THEIR WERE MORE HUMAN BEINGS WORKING IN THE RESCUE STAFF IN THIS GOD FORSAKEN COUNTRY,
BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THE “WHITE” PEOPLE ARE ON DUTY.
GOD BLESS THE TRUE HUMAN BEINGS OUT THERE WHO DONOT LABEL
PEOPLE WITH COLORS TO SATISFY THEIR EGO, AND MAKE THEMSELEVES FEEL IN CONTROL, THANK YOU FOR HELPING SOME
PEOPLE AND TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
GOD BLESS NEW ORLEANS.

Every person of color reason for staying behind before Katrina hit, wasn’t because they didn’t have the money nor transportation, they stayed to protect their home just like everybody else.
