Eric Berlin says:

Lord knows it’s always fun to bust on Fox News, but those captions are an ongoing summary of whatever point the speaker is making. Wonkette could have just as likely tuned in thirty seconds later and gotten an anti-torture spokesperson with his summary underneath. Those quotes do not necessarily reflect Fox’s own standpoint.

Eric,

You can tell more about a person from the questions they ask than the answers they give. And “news” stations too. If you look at how Fox frames its reporting, you will find that they ask questions to get the answers they want. Its just another varient of the method Joseph Goebells and Rush Limbaugh use. Tell a small truth, frame a question to tie the truth to the answer you want, mix the truth in with a small lie, then use the lie to conclude the big lie.

Wow, this discussion may have broken the land-speed record for the comparing of conservatives to Nazis. Well done!

Jim Sewell says:

Eric’s right about the captions being what the speaker is saying. Besides, if they only had captions of “Torture is Evil” and “President Bush supports torture” then how fair and balanced would that be? Balance means both sides of the issue. Besides, CNN would sue them for stealing their captions. :P

Eric,

The sad thing is that I’m what used to be known as a Conservative before the right wingnuts subverted the term. I’m for a smaller government that doesn’t spend money it doesn’t have and stays the hell out of our lives.

The present administration is pissing away money faster than all the presidents before him combined (with a cheerful moronic grin), championing torture, and trying to tell everyone which God to worship.

As for the comparison to Goebbels, it happens to be a thesis I did back in college when old Rush got started.I would have tossed in a liberal pundit, but there isn’t one of note unless you count Al Franken - and I don’t.

Elect Barry Goldwater in 2008. He’s dead, but still a better man for President.

And yet, those captions are simply an ongoing summary of whatever point the speaker is making.
