Preserve, protect, and defend

From Capitol Hill Blue:

“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law [the Patriot Act] undermine the Constitution.”

“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”

I’ve talked to three people present for the meeting that day and they all confirm that the President of the United States called the Constitution “a goddamned piece of paper.”

Eric Berlin says:

That’s very, very believable. First, that Bush said that. Then, that this guy found about it, even though it was said during a meeting of Republican leaders in the Oval Office. Third, that he found three people at that same meeting who agreed that’s what Bush said. So easy to swallow, they should bottle it.

Its certainly believable from the administration’s actions:

- Torturing Prisoners
- Opposing anti-torture amendments
- Having secret prisons to avoid operating within American laws
- Holding prisoners indefinitely without even trying to establish international protections (putting our future troops at risk)
- Holding an American prisoner as an “enemy combatant” in violation of his rights
- Illegally paying reporters to write and publish pro-government propaganda
- Holding “staged” town halls with prepared softball questions from photogenic actors while preventing protesters from even being seen as a “security precaution.”
- Attempting to interfere directly with an US citizen legal rights
etc. etc.

And the “legal” stuff that he is doing - plunging us into a war with questionable justification and goals, running up the debt faster than all the Presidents before him COMBINED, giving billions to buddies with pork-barrel energy bills and no-bid contracts isn’t that impressive either.

Actions do speak louder than words.

I can only hope that US citizens can find relief in the wake of this administration by finally getting to the truth and putting the guilty parties in jail.
