Nude sculpture could destroy student’s life

Published 9/26/06

A veteran art teacher in Frisco, Texas, has been suspended for taking her class to an art museum where a student — gasp! — saw a nude scuplture.

You can’t make this stuff up. I mean, how incredibly, irrevocably stupid do you have to be to make a big deal about some elementary school kid seeing a couple of stone boobs? Really. It wasn’t like she took them to a strip show, or even a photo exhibit with nudes. It was a sculpture gallery for gods’ sake!

But there’s always one parent — one sad, pathetic person who thinks it’s just fine to screw with someone’s life because she’s so oversensitive that the best place for her and her family is some compound in the middle of nowhere, where they can avoid contact with the horrible, dirty world.

And people wonder how the Taliban got into power.

You know what I’d love to see? Someone explain what the danger of seeing nudity is. Seriously. Too many people seem to accept as fact that seeing a naked person is somehow bad for you. Before we ban and fire and censor, we ought to have some shred of evidence that seeing a bare breast is actually bad, as opposed to something that goes against a few people’s Puritan instincts.

Because we’ve reached the point where that an idiot parent in Texas went so far as to say that seeing a nude sculpture — not even something incredibly lifelike! — could somehow harm her child.

They don’t raise ‘em very smart down there, do they?

Apparently she never breast fed her child either. Otherwise that kid got a good look at her boobs on more than 1 occasion.

We should embrace our freedoms while we still have them. It won’t be long before people like that ruin this country and blame everyone else for it.

I do agree that this woman is dumb for her decision to get this teacher suspended, but I dont agree with it being said that Texans arent raised smart. I have a 4.0 GPA and Im currently taking pre-cal and all advanced classes, oh and did I forget to mention im a sophomore in high school!! I dont appreciate your broad statement about the intelligence of Texans, and before anyone says anything, Im not a nerd Im also am on varsity volleyball team and am cadet commander in the AFJROTC. Before you start talking crap about Texans you should spend a little more time doing some research because your comments are rude and untrue!!!

does anybody know anything about the sculpture that was seen…I mean, was it modern, classical, academic, what? A title and artist would be most appreciated, surely some intrepid reporter went to the museum to get a shot of the offending object d’Art…
