Strange requirements at Classmates.com

Published 12/5/06

A friend of mine sent me a link to a page in Classmates.com. To access it, I needed to sign up. It’s free, so I did. When it asked for an e-mail address, I did what I always do: I used an address that would let me track any spam that came from their selling my address. I entered classmates at kantor.com, which is a working e-mail address.

It said, “That e-mail address is denied.” Huh? (I’ve never registered there before, so it couldn’t be that.)

I tried again, then tried “classmate” instead of “classmates.” No joy — that was denied, too.

So I set up a new alias and used that, which Classmates.com was happy to approve. So as far as it’s concerned, my e-mail address is fuckyou@kantor.com. Go figure.

hahahaha.
Classmates is a rip off, they charge you for everything, and no one is really on it. MySpace or Facebook is a much better social networking site.

I wish I had my own webdomain so I could give people an address like that.

Get thee to http://www.spamgourmet.com. A spamgourmet account allows you to create e-mail addresses on the fly. It also allows you to set the maximum number of messages you want to have transmitted to that address. You can reset it if you want to.

It’s a great resource and I use it all the time.

Richard Williams says:

I am not renewing my membership with Classmates.com because they are selling advertising space to a SCAM DATING WEBSITE headquartered in Irving,TX,that uses false claims, phony winks, and e-mails sent by employees to entice the lonely hearts to become paid members at $49.99 per month (plus another 99 cents for some unknown added benefit). This SCAM site got me for $101.96 in 28 days while an employee strung me along for over two months to collect her commission. If CLASSMATES.COM wants to aid and abet this ongoing criminal enterprise then I will not be their customer.

I had the same “email is denied” experience on classmates. I do the same trick with my domain so I can track the selling of my email address.

I haven’t had a bad experience…yet.

I recently paid for a 3 month membership to connect with an old friend I’ve been looking for for years. I’ve connected to a half dozen people that I’ve lost touch with. Other than going into my profile and turning all the crap off - including auto renewal - my experience hasn’t been that bad.
