Piece of cake. Simple instructions — back up MySQL database, back up files, delete everything except this and this and this, upload, run upgrade script.
Took about 10 minutes, mostly waiting for up- and downloads.
WordPress still uses PHP and MySQL for the backend, as always.
Just FTP access, so you could use CPanel if you like. I find that clunky; FileZilla or FireFTP is easier.
