Blandys Reserve Madeira — any good?

Published 6/29/07

My father has a bunch of old whiskies and such in his house that he doesn’t want. I grabbed a couple including this bottle by mistake.

Anyone know if this is any good? What kind of drink is it — more like a whiskey or sweeter? (He had a lot of brandy.)

It’s something like 25 years old, too. His 25-year-old Baileys had to be tossed (eew), but the other stuff seemed good.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

never heard of the whiskey, however, the aging only matters how long it was aged in a cask at the original manufacturer. After it is bottled, the age doesn’t matter except in how difficult it is to remove the cork. I have several bottles of old whiskey from the 60s, thinking it was going to be awesome, and it turns out it is no different than a whiskey i could get today. Either way, any reason to drink (in moderation) is good.

Cheers to you!!

Wikipedia says little about the taste, just that it’s a wine. But Emily’s comment was helpful, and the bottle says it’s enjoyable as an after-dinner drink, which seems to support her idea.

And yo scott, you’re absolutely right — per that Wikipedia entry I see that Madeira wine is known for being incredibly long lasting. So I might give it a try tonight after the wife and boy are on the road. :)

Heh, funny comments! I was also going to tell you that Madeira is wine. I knew it was sweet wine, which is always infamous for giving the worst hangover headaches BTW. But I have never had it, not to mention this brand, before.
