Why Fred Thompson is an idiot, and why only I seem to know what to do in Iraq

Published 11/30/07

Thanks to a point-to by Gnomic to one of those choose-the-candidate quizzes, I took the two minutes to fill it out. It spat back the list of candidates ordered by intelligence.

The results are here.

Bottom line: Dennis Kucinich and Chris Dodd seem to be the smartest of the pack, while Fred Thompson and Tom Tancredo show themselves to be idiots.

My politics used to be middle of the road, but with America having become more polarized than ever thanks to Mr. Uniter-not-Divider, the candidates ended up sorted by party lines.

This isn’t entirely a surprise. The Repubs apparently have only two tools in their toolbox, thus their solution for everything boils down to A) use violence or the threat of it, or B) give tax money to a private corporation to deal with it. (Or C: ignore it.)

I’m smarter and more flexible than that.

Oh, and as for Iraq, I chose “Draw down the U.S. troops and decentralize Iraq by dividing it into regions of separate governments.” Apparently that’s not in anyone’s playbook.

I didn’t choose the deviding option because I don’t think that its a viable option to impose as a solution. One 2 of the 3 partitions have oil; the one that doesn’t is the central government and its land-locked. Its not the ethnic or religious issues that make me think its not a viable option, its the economy, smartie. However, if you leave it to them to sort (fight) it out, it will likely result in that type of partitioning. ITs just that imposing it will result in the same level of chaos and fighting that letting it evolve will, so why should the US fight that battle?

Those poor damned people…

Steve says:

The dividing up of Iraq makes sense at first, but historically it hasn’t seemed to work well in other places that’s been tried - particularly in Pakistan/India, or the former Yugoslavia.

Dividing up the parts may end up putting all of the different factions into boxing corners, give them a sense of identity, and proceed to fight *even more*.

When they’re all in one country, at least there’s the sense that they’re supposed to try to get along.

Of course, it usually takes a totalitarian dictator or other Supreme Leader to keep those bits in check (in Yugoslavia’s case that was the USSR, in Iraq it was Hussein, in India it was the East India Company and the British).

Compulsory snide remark: The common denominator? Religion.

I have so much fun clicking on the riech wing ads that keep showing up with push polls for Greedy Old Politicians, knowing that each time I do Andrew gets a nickel. I always make up an address that goes back to the domain just to waste thier time.

It’s really simple to solve. Travel back in time 6 years and make sure we don’t get involved in the first place. :)

Thankfully, King George has seen fit to resolve the problem in another way - commit to at least 10 more years in the country. That’s the way to prove to America and the world that we’re ready to leave as soon as possible.

Oh, and Andrew - your blogroll link to my Blahg is broken. But I *do* appreciate the attempt. ;)
