One phrase missing

Published 3/8/08

If I was the writer of this story, "Thousands of Afghans protest cartoons, movie," there is one addition I would have made.

HERAT, Afghanistan (AP) — Thousands of Afghans demonstrated Saturday in western Afghanistan, shouting angry slogans against Denmark and the Netherlands for alleged insults against Islam.

[snip]

Demonstrators shouted "Death to Denmark for insulting our prophet" and "Death to the Netherlands for insulting our religion." They also shouted "Death to America."

That last paragraph would have had so much more kick if it had ended with the phrase "for good measure."

(Note to protesters: They’re cartoons. Get over it. There are a lot more important things to worry about; there are women out there driving for goodness’ sake. And showing their ankles. Some even have jobs.)

Whats good for you isn’t good for everyone.

There are some Muslims that believe that Muhammad should not be seen as it would encourage idolatry.

Not to mention that the cartoons of a bomb on his head can be a bit offensive to some Muslims.

Think of it this way:

Jesus performing an abortion.

Would that not upset some who hold Jesus in high regard?

gnomic says:

Jesus performing an abortion? Now that’s funny! Especially considering the bible doesn’t mention abortion. I wonder what would happen if JC showed up and pointed out all the ways people put words into his mouth for thier own purposes? He’d probably be accused of flip-flopping and you all would stone him.

Which has nothing at all to do with the fact that Jesus didn’t say “Thou shall not offend thy neighbor” or “go forth and legislate” People have the right - at least in this country - to offend. And you have the right to be offended and whine about it.

Of course the real irony is that all these phone chistians appear to be envious about how muslim leaders hold such absolute control over thier followers. If only the phonies could force thier narrow-minded beliefs down everyone’s throat! They’d be SO happy!

You people can claim the moral high ground once you start living by the words of christ and stop trying to force everyone else to live by your beliefs. Until then, the rest of us will have a beer on Sunday if we damn well please.

Like most religions, they need to create an enemy because it is easier to motivate (manipulate) people (sheep) with hate than with love or with the real message of the Koran, or the Bible for that matter. Or the US Constitution.

I agree - for good measure would have been a great addition to the story.

That’s funny. “Some” Muslims believe that, but all idolize Mohammad or they wouldn’t want to go and start riots over a cartoon.

Dave Chapelle should do a skit on this.
