Will someone please explain to me what passing a law to make english the offical language will actually change? Does something think that this will force people to suddenly speak english? Hell, you can’t even get teenagers to speak, like, english goodly.

Its just another example of how ignorant, dumb, and stupid (just to cover all the bases) these people are and how easily they are distracted from real issues.

Which BTW, you will note that she isn’t wearing an american flag lapel pin, so she proves shes a pro-abortion, anti-gun terrorist.

It just occured to me that if English in the official language, Bush will have to resign.

We’re just misunderinterpreting his superior lingusticism.

Perhaps someone can explain to me this…

I am a failure at the english language…

But, why if we are supposed to speak english then why is “our” english different than the english in England?

I can understand dialects etc.. but what about things that are spelled differently like colour? Or calling “Z” Zed?

tommy says:

IMO there is not enough of a difference to argue over the finer points between ‘The Queen’s English’ and ‘American English’ (’the Queens English’). They’re just dialects.

I mean in GB alone there are dozens of dialects spoken and some can be very hard to understand until you get used to hearing them. There are many dialects in ‘American’ English which differ vastly as well.

Although there are differences in dialects, written English is more or less written English. Colour, behaviour, etc are alternate spellings; the words have the same meaning. (My third grade teacher would have failed me if I had spelled it ‘colour’ though.)

But there is some crossover: in the NorthEastern US (tri-state area?), they have an electronic toll collection system called ‘EZPass.’ Some Brits I know didn’t get it for a while, thinking to themselves ‘E Zed Pass - I don’t get it…’

I’ll tell ya though: offical is not a word.
