University of South Australia: “Excess coffee consumption a culprit for poor health
… too much coffee can increase the risk of osteoarthritis, arthropathy (joint disease) and obesity. […] six cups* of coffee a day were considered the upper limit of safe consumption.
Anglia Ruskin University: “Coffee linked to lower body fat in women
Overall, the average total body fat percentage was 2.8% lower among women of all ages who drank two or three cups of coffee per day. Among women aged between 45-69, those who drank four or more cups had an adiposity percentage 4.1% lower.
So they’re not really contradictory — together they reinforce the current thinking that four to six cups* of coffee a day is the sweet spot. We’ll stick with that.
