Statins beat bad bacteria

Obese people have a lower diversity of gut bacteria than thin folks, something biologists are still trying to figure out. For example, they tend to have more of a type that causes inflammation. Here’s a new wrinkle: When obese people take statins, their gut bacteria gets better — the level of that ‘bad’ bacteria drops significantly. Why is that bacteria linked to inflammation? Why do statins seem to moderate it? They just don’t know … yet.
